College Advising Program

Updated: Jun 7, 2021

FEI Foundation launches College Application Advising Program (CAP) for junior and senior high school students. College admission is a confusing and chaotic process. To stand out among the crowd of applicants, prospective students fill the complicated common application, try to write creative essays, strive to build impressive resumes, all this while not even knowing the admissions criteria. What makes this even more challenging for applicants is that the colleges themselves have diverging views on what constitutes an ideal candidate. Many families hire college advisors to navigate the college admission process in the absence of individualized attention at public schools. Unfortunately, not all families in Howard County can afford this specialized help and thus depend on the overburdened public-school counselors. The program will deliver targeted, professional assistance to HCPSS students. Priority will be given to students meeting specific criteria, including ESOL, and students representing the first in their families to pursue college. FEI Foundation will select a dozen HCPSS students based on their responses to the questionnaire who desire college guidance and support them with professional guidance counselors and former high school students who have successfully navigated the process. The program will be offered at no cost to students. HCPSS Junior and Senior high school students who would like to apply, please fill this questionnaire. All information submitted will be kept confidential.
