Howard County Families for Education Improvement Foundation (FEI Foundation) is guided by the mission of ensuring all children in Howard County have the basic needs and resources available to enable them to build a successful future. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing disparities in our community, in particular around food insecurity. The Indian Origin Network of Howard County (IONHoCo), recognized this heightened need early in the pandemic and quickly mobilized pop-up food pantries, providing over 10,000 pounds of food weekly to local communities in need. FEI Foundation is now proud to launch additional food pantries in late June, in coordination with IONHoCo.
The food pantries will take place at the Long Reach Village Center parking lot, and will in particular serve the needs of students at Phelps Luck Elementary. “Many families in our community have been unable to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Supporting them with additional food during this time is an essential need,” said Michelle Leader, Principal of Phelps Luck Elementary. “We appreciate the support that Families for Education Improvement Foundation will provide to our families!”
